Whitney Wolfe's father Michael is a wealthy property developer. In the fourth grade she went on sabbatical to Paris and "became fluent in French." She went to a private high school and was a 3rd generation legacy student at Southern Methodist University. In college, she did another sabbatical in Paris, and refused to live with her host family, insisting instead that she stay in her own furnished apartment off the Champs Elysées. Her Wikipedia page say she studied at Sorbonne University. Her college classmate has said this is not true (and also that they had a French class together, and Whitney was not, in fact, fluent). One of her college projects was selling bamboo tote bags with environmentally-themed art by celebrity designer Patrick Aufdenkamp painted on them to raise money for the BP oil spill clean up efforts. She called the project "Help Us Get Cleaned Up Totes". Nicole Richie bought one. Only 60% of the sales wound up going to the charity.

Whitney met Michael Herd, heir to the Texas oil fortune of Bob L. Herd, while skiing in Aspen in 2013. They had a fairytale wedding in Italy in 2017.
